class details
Talmud Takes is a weekly class for Talmud beginners and mavens. Every week, Chava Shapiro shares a new piece of text that is relevant to current events, the Jewish calendar, the weekly Parsha, or the social justice issues that stir our hearts. Through each class you’ll have the chance to learn new study skills, build your confidence in navigating the daf (a page of Talmud), learn how to connect to other source materials, and build community through learning.
This class is appropriate for drop-in learners as well as those who wish to attend weekly.
Chava Shapiro (they/them) is a queer Jew dwelling on the lands of Tohono O’odham people. They are invigorated by the way that Talmud acts as a conduit of ancestral conversations that span space and time. They are a SVARA Kollel fellow and the founder of the Jewish Zine Archive, which serves as both an archival collection and digital Jewish cultural space.
